C aligns with the sunrise and Roker lighthouse on Easter Sunday, creating a twice yearly solar event.
As companion piece to Second Sun, C is linked by way-markers, marking a scaled solar system between the two and the distance to the end of the C2C route for cyclist who have crossed the country. The final mirror polished granite piece ‘C’, is a carved offset aperture form that re-contextualises the Roker lighthouse. The sun rose be-hind the lighthouse through the hole at 7.30am on 04/04/10 for Easter Sunday and will do so on the 04/04 for millennia (as calculated by The Venerable Bede). Easter Sunday doesn’t fell again on 04/04 again 2021 this event will not happen again until 2083. The alignment happens twice a year on variable dates.
