LIGHT PERCENTAGE
The image as a whole works as a half tone pattern, appearing abstract when close up and becoming recognisable as a wood grain pattern from a distance. The image had to conform as a whole to the required light levels, allowing 60% light through over its whole area. (The original buildings front elevation area dimensions being 95m x 15m. Drawing below not to scale) This image is 60% black to 40% white. The white represents the Brise soleil. The black the gaps. Each slat is 300mm wide with a gap of 300mm the thinest part of the shaped slats drops to approx 160mm wide. The whole scheme was at the final planning stage before being cancelled due to financial cuts in 2011.
